Dhaka Bank Thursday formally introduced a special banking facility to encourage the habit of savings among the school students across the country.
The special school savings measure named -- Edu Savings Plan -- will be implemented in collaboration with Metlife Alico, a premier global life insurance company, for the school children aged between 4 and 16 years.
The plan was incorporated following a directive of the central Bank to create Banking Products for Schools to encourage students to go for savings from their school life.
"This kind of banking products will encourage the school kids about savings for their own future," Managing Director (MD) of the bank Khondker Fazle Rashid, said at a press conference.
The press conference was arranged at a city hotel marking the launching ceremony of the product which will come under five categories of different periods.
Formally inaugurating the special banking service, the MD said at the initial stage, the service will be provided by 17 selected branches of his institution and then it will be expanded gradually to cover all the students.
The bank's head of marketing Azad Shamsi informed the journalists that the scheme will ensure children's academic savings for their future at affordable and flexible monthly instalments -- Tk 2000, Tk 3000, Tk 5000,Tk 8000,Tk 10,000,Tk 12,000,Tk 15,000 and Tk 20,000 which will include different periods - four, six, eight, ten and twelve years.
Metlife Alico will provide full maturity of value of the respective plan in case of parent's accidental death or permanent total disability.
From now on, parents on behalf of the children (students) will open account at any branch -- Banani Gulshan, Dhanmondi, Uttara, Moghbazar, Bngshal, Mirpur, Baridhara, Khilgaon, Karwan Bazar, DA Avenue Agrabad, Rajshahi, Barisal, Khulna and Sylhet.
