After completion of drilling works, gas is expected to be supplied to the port city from the wells by March 2012.

Through a power-point projection at the ceremony, John Chambers put up different aspects of gas exploration and supply about the three new wells in Sangu.
Chief of the parliamentary standing committee on commerce ministry Abul Qasem Master, Australian High Commissioner in Dhaka Justin Lee, Petrobangla Director (Finance) Rafiqul Islam, Director (PSC) Mohammad Imamuddin and Director (Planning) Saiful Alam, also spoke at the function.
During the function, Santosh Sangu Vice-President ABA Sirajuddoula informed that rigs (apparatus used for drilling oil and gas wells) have already arrived at Chittagong from Singapore. The rigs are expected to reach the gas field within next two to three days to start the drilling work by September 21.
In the first phase, drilling work would be initiated at South Sangu, some five kilometers off Sangu Field. Then drilling would start at Sangu-11 by the end of November this year and at North-east Sangu by January next year, Sirajuddoula informed.
Speakers at the ceremony have hailed the initiatives taken by Santos to explore gas in offshore fields in Chittagong and hoped that the gas supplied from Sangu will help ease the existing gas crisis in Chittagong as well as in the country.
