The prime minister's comments blaming BNP for the recent share market crash is 'political', says the chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on finance ministry.
"Prime minister Sheikh Hasina's comments in this regard will not affect the investigation into the stocks crash," A H M Mostafa Kamal told reporters after a meeting of the standing committee on public-private partnership on Tuesday.
Hasina, at a cabinet meeting on Monday, blamed BNP for the food price hike and the stocks crash, an allegation turned down by the opposition party later in the day.
Kamal said, "I can't say on which perspective the prime minister said this. It's a political statement by the prime minister. She definitely didn't mean it," he said.
Kamal said the disorder in the share market was a consequence of a gap between the supply and demand of shares.
He said, "The reason behind the abnormal situation of the market is creating an opportunity to whiten the black money and whiten further the white one."
