চিকিৎসায় অবহেলায় নবজাতকের মৃত্যুর ঘটনায় ইবনে সিনা হাসপাতালের এক চিকিৎসকসহ চার জনকে গ্রেপ্তার করেছে ধানমণ্ডি থানা পুলিশ। ধানমণ্ডি থানার ওসি মো.মনিরুজ্জামান আজ বৃহস্পতিবার সাংবাদিকদের জানান, বিকাল ৩টার দিকে ওই হাসপাতালে চিকিৎসক সৈয়দ আনোয়ারুল আবেদীনসহ তিন কর্মকর্তাকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়। নবজাতকের মৃত্যুর ঘটনায় তার বাবা ইদ্রিস শিকদার বুধবার একটি মামলা করেন। সে মামলায়ই এ চার জনকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়েছে বলে পুলিশ জানায়।
গ্রেপ্তার অন্যরা হলেন- ইবনে সিনা হাসপাতালের মহাব্যবস্থাপক আমিনুল ইসলাম, সহকারী প্রশাসনিক কর্মকর্তা কামরুল হাসান ও আকতার হোসেন খান। চিকিৎসককে হাইকোর্টের ফটক থেকে এবং অন্যদের ইবনে সিনা হাসপাতালে থেকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয় বলে জানান ওসি । চিকিৎসায় অবহেলায় নবজাতকের মৃত্যুর ঘটনায় দুপুরে হাইকোর্ট ওই হাসপাতালের ট্রাস্টি বোর্ডের চেয়ারম্যান বাদে অন্য সব সদস্যকে গ্রেপ্তারের নির্র্দেশ দেয়।
গত ১৫ অগাস্ট বেসরকারি টেলিভিশন চ্যানেল বৈশাখীতে প্রচারিত একটি প্রতিবেদনে ইদ্রিসের সন্তানের মৃত্যুর খবর প্রচার করে বলা হয়, চিকিৎসায় অবহেলাই ওই শিশুর মৃত্যুর কারণ। বিষয়টি হাইকোর্টের নজরে এলে এ বিষয়ে পদক্ষেপ নিতে পুলিশকে নির্দেশ দেওয়া হয়।

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged the people to have patience as her government has taken numerous measures to solve all major problems, including power and gas crises.“Please, have patience; we’re working hard to solve your problems. Problems may arise, but there’s no reason to get frustrated,” she said while delivering her valedictory speech in Parliament.
Regarding price hike, she said the prices of basic goods have increased around the world. “We’re trying to bring the prices within the commoners’ reach.”
Hasina also mentioned that steps have been taken to increase the income of the people keeping in mind the price hike, and referred to the salaries of the public servants her government raised after assuming power.
“Even the day labourers are earning more compared to their recent income,” the prime minister said.
About the power crisis, she said her government added 2000MW of power to the national grid in the past two years. “If we can produce such amount of electricity why the BNP and the caretaker governments couldn’t do that,” she asked.
Hasina said during her previous (1996-2001) tenure, her government had increased the power generation from 1600 MW to 4300MW. “But it came down to 3100 during the BNP-Jamaat regime.”
“Can I ask why you people (BNP-Jamaat and caretaker governments) failed to raise the production [of power],” she said.
She told the House that had the BNP-Jamaat alliance government in their five years term had been able to increase 5000MW while the caretaker government 2000MW than the country would have had surplus electricity.
The prime minister strongly criticised the caretaker government for its failure to go for power generation. “You got together from the elite class of civil society and had the military backing. There was no opposition party and political turmoil either. Why did you fail to do so,” she questioned.
Hasina said although her government increased the power generation significantly, the demand is still very high. “This will take time to mitigate. There is no overnight solution to power crisis.”
She mentioned that the government has already installed 26 power plants.
About the gas crisis, she said her government has reduced all duties and other levies on cylindered gas. “People will get cylindered gas for their cooking purpose,” she said.
Hasina said her government came to power with a mandate to make the country self reliant. “We’re working hard to make the country economically strong and laid out our plan accordingly.”
Criticising the opposition, she said they just plundered public money and wealth when they were in power.
About the rundown roads across the country, she said those were in good shape in 2001, but the roads got damaged as the BNP-Jamaat alliance and caretaker governments did not take care of those.
“But I’ve asked the communications minister just to fill the potholes on the roads only right now. Or else, the repair works will not sustain due to rain and the money will go down the drain,” she said.
Regarding frequent road accidents, she blamed the drivers and the pedestrians equally and emphasised the training of drivers and awareness of the pedestrians.
About the recent tragic road accident in which noted filmmaker Tareque Masud and media personality Mishuk Munier were killed, the prime minister said their deaths caused an irreparable loss to the nation.
She urged all to be more careful while travelling on the roads.
