শেয়ারবাজার জিয়াউল হক খন্দকার বলেন, ‘পুঁজিবাজার একটি বিশাল সেক্টর। এ বাজারকে সার্বক্ষণিক পর্যবেক্ষণে রাখার জন্য অনেক জনবল প্রয়োজন, যা এখানে নেই।’
তিনি বলেন, ‘পুঁজিবাজার একটি জটিল জায়গা। তাই বাজার নিয়ন্ত্রণ করতে যা যা করা প্রয়োজন, আমার অবস্থান থেকে সাধ্যমতো চেষ্টা করেছি। বাদবাকি সরকারের ইচ্ছা। যদি আমাকে এ পদে যোগ্য মনে করে তাহলে আমি কাজ করে যাব।’
গত দু’বছরে ৪০ জন লোক নিয়ে এসইসি যেভাবে কাজ এগিয়ে নিয়ে গেছে তাতে সন্তোষ প্রকাশ করেন তিনি।
নতুন চেয়ারম্যানের বিষয়ে জানতে চাইলে তিনি বলেন, ‘এখনো আমি চেয়ারম্যান আছি। সরকারিভাবে কোনও নির্দেশনা না আসা পর্যন্ত আমি চেয়ারম্যান পদে বহাল আছি।’
এ সময় এসইসির চেয়ারম্যন পদ থেকে পদত্যাগের সম্ভাবনা উড়িয়ে দিয়ে তিনি বলেন, ‘সরকার যে সিদ্ধান্ত নেবে আমি তা মেনে নেবো। তবে আজ (সোমবার) পর্যন্ত কোন চিঠি আমাদের কাছে আসেনি।’
তদন্ত রিপোর্ট সর্ম্পকে জানতে চাইলে ‘এ বিষয়ে এখন আমার কথা বলা ঠিক হবে না’ বলে এড়িয়ে যান তিনি।

On May 6, Muhith would fly to Istanbul, Turkey, to join Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who will be there to attend the 4th UN Conference of Least Developed Countries.
Along with other world leaders of the grouping, the PM would address the UN-sponsored meet of the world’s poor-country club, to be held May 7-10.
“The minister will return home on May 11,” a competent source said, about the finance minister’s two-nation tour.
