অর্থমন্ত্রী আবুল মাল আব্দুল মুহিত দাবি করেছেন, শেয়ারবাজার কেলেংকারি তদন্ত প্রতিবেদন প্রকাশ করা হবে না এমন কথা তিনি বলেননি। তিনি শুধু বলেছেন, এটি প্রকাশ করা হবে তবে ‘এডিট’ করে। এছাড়া ‘শেয়ারবাজারে প্রভাবশালীরা রাষ্ট্রের চেয়ে শক্তিশালী’ এ ধরনের কোনো মন্তব্য করেননি বলেও দাবি করেন অর্থমন্ত্রী।

রোববার রাজধানীর পরিকল্পনা কমিশনের এনইসি সম্মেলনকক্ষে এক প্রাক বাজেট আলোচনায় অর্থমন্ত্রী এ কথা বলেন।Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Sunday reiterated that the parts of the probe report on stockmarket scam would be edited and investigated before making it public.
"The ministry has taken the responsibility to look into the whole report, as it does not needlessly want to play any role in humiliating anybody’s character," he said.
Muhith was talking with journalists after a pre-national budget meeting with the parliamentary standing committees on finance, planning, public accounts and government affairs at the auditorium of National Economic Council in the city.
The finance minister made the comments in an effort to appease criticisms that the government might erase names of the people widely suspected in the share market scam, as incumbent lawmakers and many pro-government businessmen were involved in it.
Muhith said: "On the day the probe committee submitted its report, I just said that the government, if necessary, might not publish unverified information."
"But without understanding my comments, it has been published and circulated that I would publish the report omitting the names, which is not correct and realistic,"
The minister said a large part of the comments attributed to him is not true. He however admitted some parts have been correctly attributed.
Muhith hinted that the probe report might be published next week.
He said the finance ministry would evaluate the probe report and conduct further investigation according to the recommendations put forward.
The minister also ruled out suggestions that the legality of the probe committee would be questioned after a new member, Supreme Court lawyer Nihad Kabir, joined the investigation team after the three-member body led by Bangladesh Krishi Bank Chairman Khondakar Ibrahim Khaled was initially formed.
Muhith categorically ruled out comments attributed to him that influential people of the stockmarkets are mightier than the state.
