সম্প্রতি শেয়ারবাজারে বিপর্যয়ের কারণ অনুসন্ধানে গঠিত তদন্ত কমিটিকে সংশ্লিষ্ট তথ্য সরবরাহের আহ্বান জানিয়েছেন কমিটির চেয়ারম্যান খোন্দকার ইব্রাহিম খালেদ। আজ বৃহস্পতিবার এক বিজ্ঞপ্তির মাধ্যমে তিনি এই আহ্বান জানান।
The SEC directed the Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges that all listed companies would restrain from all short of activities related to change of face value to Tk 10.
‘The decision was taken after discussing with the government,’ said Yeasin Ali, member of the SEC.
‘We received allegations that some companies were manipulating share prices, using the opportunity,’ he added.
Yasin said, ‘There is no fixed timeframe for how long the suspension will continue. After observing the market condition, we will be able to take more precise regulations.’
After a share market debacle last month, the finance ministry on January 10 had decided that all listed companies would change face value to Tk 10 from Tk 100 or Tk 1,000.
Earlier, on May 10 last year the SEC had decided to allow listed companies to change face value to Tk 10 after fulfilling some conditions.
Share trading on the bourses had hit record high on May 11, when the investors had switched from higher face value stocks to lower ones expecting higher return on a comparatively less investment.
The SEC on March 2, 2010 decided to set a uniform face value of shares at TK 100 in line with an instruction of the finance ministry.
But the decision was revised later in the backdrop of the growing demand of investors to allow lower face value.
